What is Radon?
According to the National Cancer Institute radon is the number one cause of lung cancer besides smoking. Radon is a radioactive gas produced from a breakdown of uranium in soil, water and rock beneath the earth’s surface. You can’t see, smell or touch it.
Radon can enter homes and businesses from cracks in the foundation, basements, crawl spaces and underground broken pipes. One in 15 homes and business buildings in the United States will test positive for higher than acceptable radon levels.
In the Rocky Mountain states such as Idaho, it’s estimated that one in three homes and buildings will test at higher than acceptable levels. It is recommended that every homeowner and commercial property owner get a radon test. Teton Radon Services is a radon testing and mitigation company that serves Rigby and all of Jefferson County.
Radon Testing and Acceptable Levels
Here at Teton Radon Services we take pride in the use of cutting edge technology for our radon testing. We use a Continuous Radon Monitor (CRM) for our tests. We recommend that every residential homebuyer and seller gets a radon test. We recommend it for rentals in the Jefferson County area, as well. We are also licensed to perform radon tests in large commercial buildings and recommend it for those buildings.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) if the test results are 4.0 pCi/L and under it’s legally acceptable. However, the EPA doesn’t consider 4.0 pCi/L safe. The EPA recommends that any level between 2.0-4.0 gets a radon mitigation system.
Radon Mitigation System
Our certified technician, Gary, can design and build custom radon mitigation systems to meet the needs of your residential or commercial property. He’s been designing and building systems in the Rocky Mountain area for over 15 years. He builds systems for the interior and the exterior of homes and buildings. He can even paint a system to match the existing aesthetic look of your property.
Crawl Space Encapsulation
In addition to a radon mitigation system, we may also recommend our crawl space encapsulation service. Encapsulating a crawl space will dramatically reduce the amount of radon seeping into your home or business. We begin by thoroughly inspecting your crawl space. Then we clean it up and prepare it for the encapsulation. We use a durable, plastic six or ten mil cross linked vapor barrier to encapsulate the entire crawl space. A perforated pipe is installed under the plastic barrier that leads out to the exterior of the home or business. Radon and moisture are drawn out with a specialized fan designed for radon mitigation.
Here at Teton Radon Services we use Sun Nuclear radon testing devices. Our technician, Gary, is the only person certified to use these devices in Southern Idaho. We take pride in our services and promise to provide you with exceptional and professional radon testing, mitigation and crawl space encapsulation services.
